The Forgotten Underworld

This work takes inspiration from Sumerian and Akkadian legends, where colossal sentinels guard the entrance to the underworld. The portal opens into a starry abyss, suggesting a journey far beyond human comprehension. Ancient temples and ziggurats emerge through the haze, illuminated by glowing blue fires that add an aura of awe and mystery.

The scene was built in Blender and polished in Photoshop, with a custom shader used to shape the nebula spreading across the gate. My intention was to merge the heaviness of Mesopotamian stonework with the surreal atmosphere of an imagined afterlife.
